8 DPO: Implantation, hCG and When a Test Will Show

Testing & late periods. Updated . Calculated with the standard pregnancy dating method used by ACOG and the NHS.

8 DPO means 8 days past ovulation. Here's what is likely happening in your body, and how likely a pregnancy test is to show a result.

What's happening at 8 DPO

You are inside the implantation window, which usually runs from about 6 to 12 days past ovulation, with most implantations happening between days 8 and 10. hCG only starts to be produced after implantation, so a test at 8 DPO is very likely to be negative even if you are pregnant.

Symptoms at 8 DPO

Symptoms in the days before a missed period, such as cramps, sore breasts or tiredness, are very similar to normal premenstrual symptoms caused by progesterone. They can't reliably tell you whether you are pregnant. A small amount of spotting can happen with implantation, but many people never notice it.
