5 DPO: Implantation, hCG and When a Test Will Show
5 DPO means 5 days past ovulation. Here's what is likely happening in your body, and how likely a pregnancy test is to show a result.
What's happening at 5 DPO
Implantation hasn't happened yet. The fertilised egg, if there is one, is still travelling down the fallopian tube and developing into a blastocyst. No test can detect a pregnancy at this point.
| Days past ovulation | 5 |
|---|---|
| Implantation window | 6–12 DPO (most often 8–10) |
| Earliest a sensitive test may work | around 10 DPO |
| Period usually due | around 14 DPO |
| Test result at this stage | unlikely to show |
Symptoms at 5 DPO
Symptoms in the days before a missed period, such as cramps, sore breasts or tiredness, are very similar to normal premenstrual symptoms caused by progesterone. They can't reliably tell you whether you are pregnant. A small amount of spotting can happen with implantation, but many people never notice it.
