12 DPO: Implantation, hCG and When a Test Will Show

Testing & late periods. Updated . Calculated with the standard pregnancy dating method used by ACOG and the NHS.

12 DPO means 12 days past ovulation. Here's what is likely happening in your body, and how likely a pregnancy test is to show a result.

What's happening at 12 DPO

Some people get a faint positive on a sensitive test at 12 DPO, but many who are pregnant still test negative. hCG roughly doubles every two to three days in early pregnancy, so waiting a little longer makes a big difference.

Symptoms at 12 DPO

Symptoms in the days before a missed period, such as cramps, sore breasts or tiredness, are very similar to normal premenstrual symptoms caused by progesterone. They can't reliably tell you whether you are pregnant. A small amount of spotting can happen with implantation, but many people never notice it.
